The aluminum alloy wheels treated by the electroplating process contain hexavalent chromium, nickel, cadmium and other elements harmful to the human body in the electroplating solution, and the discharge of the waste solution will cause water pollution. The wheel hub treated by magnetron sputtering process has outstanding performance in terms of corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and there is no waste gas and waste water discharge and no pollution to the environment. However, the color of the wheel hub prepared by the current magnetron sputtering process is single, and problems such as leakage plating and poor adhesion of the film base will occur during the preparation of the film. How to use magnetron sputtering technology to prepare multi-colored, highly decorative films on the surface of aluminum alloy wheels and whose performance meets the requirements of national wheel hub standards has become an urgent problem to be studied.

By studying the effects of process parameters such as glow discharge cleaning, main bombardment, and substrate temperature on the bonding force of the film substrate and the uniformity of film sputtering, the process parameters were adjusted to conduct experiments. Direct sputtering will cause leakage plating, but sputtering compound thin films on pure metal surface or film layer will disappear the leakage plating phenomenon; some pure metal film layers (such as pure Zr) cannot be combined with dielectric paint. A combination of multi-arc ion plating and sputter ion plating is used to deposit a multi-layer composite film on the surface of the wheel hub. The process is as follows: first, a layer of pure metal transition film is deposited on the surface of the wheel hub by multi-arc ion plating technology to ensure the bonding force between the film layer and the wheel hub, and then a layer of metal compound is deposited on the transition layer by medium frequency magnetron sputtering technology. It solves the technical problems such as leakage plating, cracking, poor adhesion of film base and difficulty in coloring caused by direct deposition of compound films.
